Because it's 2017 and Jumanji is a popular '90s classic, it's getting a reboot. Well, according to director Jake Kasdan in a recent Deadline interview it shouldn't be viewed as a complete reboot:
“Jumanji is the kind of movie that I think people shouldn’t out-and-out remake. To me, a big part of its power is in the unique elements of its original execution. Within that, I think there’s this central idea and mythology that’s mysterious, but powerful, and commands a powerful part of the imagination”
This soft-reboot or reimagining or whatever you want to call it stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. In this film, instead of elements of the game coming in to the real world, the stars find themselves sucked into an unfamiliar and dangerous world via a retro video game.
